digg.com 에 대한 생각

Digg.com 은 개인적으로는 인터넷의 트랜드를 파악 하는데는 최고의 사이트라고 생각합니다.

( 금년도의 구글의 만우절 사건도 Digg.com을 통해 네티즌들에게 급속도로 유포되었고, 이 기점에서 Alexa.com 에서 순위가 급상승한 기억이 있습니다 )

 Zdnet, Slashdot. Betanews 같은 곳이 정통 기술 미디어를 지양한다면, Digg.com 은 인터넷에서 네티즌들이 흥미를 가질만한 기사와 트랜드를 읽는데 최고의 사이트인거 같습니다

( 개인적으로는 블로그에 글 쓰는 소재로 참고 할 내용이 많아 예전에 많이 애용했습니다 )

 하지만, 단점으로는 인터넷 전체에서 재미 있거나 관심 있는 주제를 네티즌이 단순히 DIgg 해 주는 레벨이기 때문에 미디어 사이트를 표방하기에는 Comment 나 커뮤니티 수준이 낮습니다. 또한, Digg.com 에서 의도하지는 않았지만, 초기에 마니아 위주로 정착 된 문화 때문에 Digg 를 많이 받은 기사들이 대부분 인터넷 트랜드라는 것이 앞으로 서비스 확장에 걸림 돌이 될거 같습니다.

 지난달에 Netscape.com 이 큰 폭으로 개편하면서, 메인페이지의 상단부분을 Digg.com 과 유사하게 Social Media 로 변경하였습니다. 개인적인 생각으로는 앞으로 다른 포탈 사이트도 Netscape 의 전례를 따라, 서비스의 상단 부분을 Digg.com 을 벤치마킹하여 서비스에 반영하지 않을까 생각합니다.

 이를, 대비하기 위해서는 DIgg.com 이 지금처럼 참신한 아이디어로 주목 받는 사이트가 아니라, 서비스와 미디어로서 확실한 자리 메김을 해야 한다고 생각합니다.

정통 미디어와 경쟁하거나 포탈과 경쟁하는 것은 조금 무모한거 같고, 지금보다 커뮤니티 기능을 강화해 일종의 블로그스피어를 강화하는 것이 좋지 않을까 생각합니다.

 단적으로, 구글의 블로그 사이트인 Blogger.com 이 Trackback 기능을 제공하지 않거나, Ebay 에 커뮤니케이션 채널인 Skype 에 커뮤니티 기능이 개판인데도 불구하고 잘 돌아 가는 거 보면,

미국 사이트들이 의외로 커뮤니티 기능과 활발한 토론 문화가 약하기 때문에 충분히 가능성이 있다고 생각합니다.
